Risto Mätas takes the Estonian javelin leading

Risto Mätas (EST), now 27 years old, threw 80.41m at the Estonian Throwing Series II stage in Tallinn. It´s also his 2nd over 80m throw all-time. His lifetime best was thrown in 2006 at the age of 23 and stands on 80.53m.

"I haven´t been able to throw any standard for the past 3 years and it´s close to my personal best as well so I have to say I am already satisfied with the season. But of course, there is many issues to gain from," he said.

"Because of my work and studies at the University I lack time to train with my coach Toomas Merila as much as we would like, but at least I now see that everything is going good," he added.

Mihkel Kukk who has been the leader of Estonian javelin throwing for the past few year was second with his season´s best of 75.55m, Andrus Värnik didn´t start because of a back injury. That means Risto Mätas is now the leader of Estonian javelin throwing

Competition was held on 2 June.
