The German Championships are around the corner. This weekend the tickets for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will be battled for. The following will be a preview for the women's throwing event.
Shot Put:
Christina Schwanitz is looking forward to her fourth consecutive title. Schwanitz is not just looking for the victory because none of the competitors can beat her. She is more focussed on increasing her season best. Last weekend she tossed the 4kg ball to 19.41m. Due to a shoulder injury, the Olympic season had a delay. Only once in her lifetime Schwanitz was able to toss the 4kg shot beyond the 20m mark. At last year's German championships in Nuremberg. It is a distance which is not required for her victory. Because the fellow throwers are trying to break the 18m mark. Sara Gambetta is the one who has ticked off the Olympic standard already tossing the 4kg ball to 17.84m. Lena Urbaniak is following Sara to break the Olympic standard hopefully.
Discus Throw:
She is defending champion, has an outstanding season best and wants to secure the ticket to Rio. Julia Fischer has thrown her discus 68.49 meters this year and leads the six Germans who fulfilled the Olympic standard. It is expected that Nadine Müller is the most promising one who can fight Julia for the victory. Also, U23 European champion Shanice Craft is in a good shape. Particularly ambitious is Anna Rüh to title fights because last year she was not making the cut being fourth best discus thrower in Germany. U20 European champion Claudine Vita had announced that she can throw even further than the 62.77 meters. With an outside chance, the Sixth Kristin Pudenz also has the standard.
Hammer Throw:
Only once was the German champion in the hammer throw in 2005, not Betty Heidler. And it looks a lot like it, that once again the former world record holder will also be in Kassel who must stand at the awards ceremony at the top. With her season-best (75.34 m), she has a lead of four meters on her club colleague Kathrin Klaas. The WM-Sixth was the one who was the surprising winner two years ago at the championship. Both are equipped with the Olympic standard (71.00 m). Charlene Woitha has the goal to throw the norm as well. One and a half meters are still missing.
Javelin Throw:
Four javelin throwers were at the 2015 World Championships final, for the Olympics, there are only three tickets. The greater the importance of the German Championships. Under pressure is Katharina Molitor. The world champion is now only at position four of the top German list that Christina Obergföll, who became World Champion in 2013, leads with almost 65 meters. Overall, the javelin flew not regularly far for all four of them which would be a good time this weekend in Kassel. Also there, the two other Olympic candidates Linda Stahl and Christin Hussong want to make the team.
