Season Start - Christina Schwanitz fights back

Shot put world champion Christina Schwanitz has a less than ideal preparation for Rio due to her shoulder problems. After much work and discipline, the 30-year-old is now ready to go into the Olympic season. This weekend she is planning her first start after nine months of injury break in Gotha (June 11).

The shoulder is doing better. "While there is still space for improvement, but finally I can train regularly and can pull a decent workout," says Christina Schwanitz. At her first competition in Gotha, she wants to start with the Olympic standard (17.75 m). Much more important is it to get back the competition feeling." said the athlete of the year.

In 2015, her most successful summer, everything was quite easy but this season is quite bumpy so far, said Schwanitz. Therefore, Schwanitz participates in a competition with a smaller scale before she is going for the German national championships title in Kassel, Germany (18/19. June). Two competitions are scheduled to kick off on Saturday in Gotha and on Sunday's Black Forest meeting in Schapbach (June 12).

Despite the limited preparation, the 30-year-old is confident that the Olympic season with the climax of the Games in Rio (Brazil, August 12 to 21) will take a positive course. "If I did not think that I can do it, then I would make no competitions." A first success for the European Champion of 2014 is that she will be back in the ring after hard work.
