Beijing Reflections: Gia Lewis-Smallwood

Tonight was the IAAF World Championships [discus final]. I am pleased to say I was 11th. I was pleased because one week before the games I popped my right-sacroiliac joint out of place, straining the ligament.

I was at training camp in Japan trying to get it popped back into place. I was in a tremendous amount of pain and had serious questions on whether or not I could physically compete at the Worlds. I could hardly walk and standing was a nightmare.

One week later I made the final and finished 11th. There are times in life when finishing 11th means something significant. This is one of those times. Thank you for all your love and support.
