Road to Beijing: Robert Urbanek

Robert Urbanek (born 29 April 1987) is a Polish athlete specializing in the discus throw. His personal best in the event is 66.93m (219' 7"), achieved in 2012 in Halle. He competed for Poland at the 2012 Olympics. Urbanek is the European Championships bronze medalist in Zurich in 2014 and placed 6th at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow.

How has your training been going recently?

Not so good. Due to heavy training load I have been struggling with my technique and lack of speed. Now it is slowly getting better and I hope I will be ready for Bejing.

What is the focus of your training schedule?

It is the last weak at which we are training really hard. After that more rest days will come and my throwing should be better.

Is there anything new you are implementing into your training?

In the following weaks I will probably throw some 1,75kg discus for speed and decreas the workload in the gym.

What technical issues are you working on?

Mainly the first phase of the throw and the rhythm.

Where are you currently training?

Right now I am in the Olympic Training Centre in Spała (Poland)

Will you be attending any training camps at another site?

No

Who is your current coach?

Witold Suski. The same as Pior Malachowski.

Are you training with your coach on site or long distance?

I am training with my coach everyday.

Are you currently working a job?

No, I am a full time athlete.

What competitions do you have planned?

After World Championships – Diamond League Final in Zurich.

When will you travel to Asia? When will you travel to Beijing?

On the 20th of August

Will any friends or family be travelling to Beijing?

No familiy members will be there.
