Aleksaas Abromavicius secures Lithuanian discus gold with 62.25m

At today's Lithuanian national championship some well known throwers participated. The most prominent one, the Olympic Champion Vrgilijus Alekan, competed in the men's discus event. Unfortunately, his best attempt was measured only 55.37m and hence 5m below his season best.

Usually when Alekna competes in the men's discus, at least when he throws with his right arm, he is on top of the podium at Lithuanian championships. But today it seemed to be different. Aleksaas Abromavicius won the men's discus competition with 62.25m. His first round effort secured him the gold medal. Andrius Gudzius was not able to surpass Aleksas during the remaining 5 rounds and ended up with the silver medal an 61.62m. Only 40cm shy was Eligijus Ruskys who threw 61.22m. Virgilijus Alekna placed 5th with 55.37m.

Sarunas Banevicius threw a new season best of 19.18m to take the victory in the men's shot put event and Martynas Sedys threw 61.83m in the men's hammer event for the victory. Edis Matusevicius won the men's javelin competition with 74.31m.

Zinaida Sendriute won the women's discus competition with 58.36m, Indre Jakubaityte the women's javelin event with 55.75m, Giedre Kupstyte threw a new personal best of 15.95m for the victory in the women's shot put event and Aiste Ziginskaite's seasonal best of 48.27m secured the hammer victory.
