Gerd Kanter surpassed the WC standard with 66.02m

The Olympic Champion Gerd Kanter has finally surpassed the qualification standard for the upcoming world championships in Beijing, China. Throwholics was told that Kanter originally wanted to compete at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in London. The organizers did not want him to compete due to his rather "weak" competitions. Quite angry and really unhappy about the decision Kanter was looking for a different competition and found one in Kohila. There he threw the qualification standard of 66m to put him 10th in the world.

Gerd Kanter:

I expected to be invited to London, unfortunately organizers consider results thrown in wind. They should have some respect. (referring to his past meets in London) .Unless I throw 65 there is no point in going to WC.

Throwholics cannot understand the decision of the meeting organizers but we do not think Kanter regrets not throwing in London. Today he managed to surpass the qualification standard of 65m with a 66.02m throw, putting him 10th in the 2015 top list.

Gerd Kanter:
I was not going to rely on the IAAF quota of the top 32 throwers to make the team. I was going either for the 65m qualification standard or there would not be a point going to Beijing at all.

Kanter opened the competition with 66.02m, let 62.72m follow in round two and then 3 fouls before sending the 2kg implement again to 62.59m. Märt Israel placed 2nd with 61.15m. Gerd Kanter's throw not only means the qualification standard for the world championships, but also for 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Gerd Kanter:
Now we need to find more stability. The 2nd and 3rd best throws were not that great and I cannot be satisfied with the 3 fouls.
