Favorite Claudine Vita takes discus gold at U20 European Championships

Claudine Vita was the big favorite in the girls discus event. Vita threw 57.47m in her last attempt to secure the gold medal at the U20 European Championships in Eskiltuna, Sweden.

All other competitions were already completed, as the discus throw went into the decisive phase. The Slovenian thrower Veronika Domjan was leading the competition after four rounds with an effort of 56.04m. The top favorite Claudine Vita found to difficult to get into the event and was even being only 3rd until her 5th round throw. But then Vita showed that she is a true champion and threw 56.64m to take the lead.

The silver medalist of the U18 World Championships 2013 was relieved and went into the ring for the last time. She dropped 57.47m to increase her lead. Veronik Domjan tried to answer, but failed to get back the lead. Her last round throw was 56.63m which was not good enough for the gold medal. Bronze went to the Russian Anastasiya Vityugova 54.21m.
