Just wanted to update all of you. We are once again, after a several year absence, planning to have the 2014 National Throws Coaches Conference - complete with Clinic, Expo, and Throwers Hall of Fame Ceremonies (just as we did before). The dates are Oct 3 - Oct. 5 (Friday evening to Sunday morning) and it will take place at the Dublin, Ohio (USA) Marriot Hotel. Complete details will be posted in the near future. We are excited to bring this back again!

I apologize for forgetting to mention Christian Cantwell and Cory Martin also. The Diamond League allows 12 people per event, so to have 10-12 top shot putters should be a "no brainer." In fact, Cory and Christian will both be competing at the Diamond League meet in Shanghai (CHN) on May 18 prior to the Pre Classic.

The current field of six shot putters for the Prefontaine Classic is as follows:
Reese Hoffa (USA)
Ryan Whiting (USA)
Dylan Armstrong (Canada)
Tomasz Majewski (Poland)
David Storl (Germany)
Ladislav Prasil (Czech Republic)How about expanding the field to 8 throwers and place American 70'+ shot putters Kurt Roberts and Joe Kovacs in? Obviously, both of them have shown that they can compete in, and possibly win, any Diamond League Meet.

Years ago, when no US meets wanted the men's shot, USATF Development plus private and personal donations supplied the Pre Classic with a full field of shot putters AND the guys never asked for prize money. This went on for several years and was done also with the old Jenner Meet along with several other meets. In fact, one year (1995) an entire Indoor "Grand Prix" season was put together for the Men's Shot and Men's 35lb Weight solely with Development Money and Private Donations (and many of the throwers picked up their own "tab"). Maybe meet promoters and directors need to be reminded once in a while the help they received to 1) supply them with great fields and 2) in some cases, keep the meets from going under.
