yes I agree mens shot put is number one throwing event at the moment. Looks like rotational is taking over. I think Ryan Crouser is the most exciting person to look forward to in shotput

@Tony Ciarelli are either of your athletes doing 2 events. Could you do 2 20 throws of discus and shotput twice a day?
-
sorry what is PEDS?
-
but we all know what Jacko was doing for the rest of the week!. Probably too many weights and not enough throwing. He lost his speed in the ring
-
@Rustam singh I can see your point but if you dont throw every day how can you get to the mythical 10000 throws. You need to throw around 30 a day to achieve this in one year. I would not think doing javellin every day would be good for your arm but I think shot and discus would be different.
-
good question. I don't throw 7.26 kg shot but can I ask after you do a training session are your muscles sore?.
-
I noticed on Birkinheads first throw the ball bounced backwards and the official seemed to be measuring from this point not the point of impact. Surely this is not right? Although I couldn't really tell form the limited shotput I got to see maybe they were overruled by the chief official and I didnt see it.
Also if someone does a qualifying throw do they ever keep throwing for practice or is it counter productive and you should save for the final

I like Ryan Whiting in the video he shows his fingers saying 'missed it by that much'. Is it just me or is Mens shot put the most exciting throwing event at the moment. So many elite throwers and a real battle over which is the better technique
-
great topic (maybe one on wind as well). one thing to do is make sure you train it. I have seen kids not cope at all with bad conditions. If you train in all conditions you should relish the bad conditions on competition day as your competitors might crumble.

@Sam Fillious think it is going to be a pretty exciting Mens shot at the Commonwealth games !
-
I find that you see big improvements with increased quantity. However I have now introduced a quality component by introducing a drill in between each throw as @Joseph Maxwell does. Ryan Whiting has some great drills and I especially like this one to finish nice and tall and creating the stretch

by the way did you notice the javelin land at the start of the video. Keep the officials on their toes!
-
@Joseph Maxwell I am sure his left heel touches the ground on the pivot. I noticed this in the NZ nationals as well. Looks much less smooth than Tom Walsh. What do you think?
-
Sorry Florian I couldn't get the @ working on my tablet
-
Joseph just interested what you throws training consist of. How many SA, full etc. Do you do both shot and discus and how many days a week?

I saw this video on you tube and I am amazed this guy could improve 4 meters in 1 year in shotput
here is a second video which analyses his throw. Looks pretty damn good to me

How many throws can you do per year?
I can see how you can do 10,000 discus throws a year using a net but shotput is heavy so I imagine 20 would be max per year you can do. -
yes I find it is great. Can do 30 throws in less than 10 mins. Probably take an hour to do at track with the collection involved. One slight issue I am thinking is that you may not notice something wrong in your technique as you cannot see the result of the throw. Although I am pretty confident it would be training you to throw straight

What an amazing site. I like the article on paint your disc. Could this be done with a rubber disc? Also can you recondition a rubber disc?

Be good for you
