This might be a valid point but I do not think that was the main reason Harting doing this step....

Harting, "Cancel my IAAF World Athlete Nomination."

Same here... sure he might not even had a shot to win this AOY but who cares. Its the position he puts himself in what I admire.
-
Bravo Harting!
-
Some people are argueing that Harting did that only because he was not even near to wi he AOY award and so he couldn't lose anything.
Any thoughts?
Yes, I have a thought; who are these people who think like that? Name them, please. Because it sounds like they have no idea what type of person Harting is and their judgement is faulty.
Do you think he made these remarks for this reason, Dylan?
-
And why's that? Do you know more about that?
Apparently Perkovic was found to have had an ingredient in "Nasal SPray" or something along those lines. The actual drug that was tested positive for was not performance enhancing in any way. But who knows the real truth behind this?

After the great response to the article Harting: “Cancel my IAAF World Athlete Nomination.” we got in contact with Robert Harting and had 3 specific questions to him. See below his answers. Florian: When did you first consider making your stand and withdrawing yourself from consideration? Robert Harting: I considered my decision when I saw the list. […]

Hey AllanW,
no this is not my opinion... But ive read this on the Track&Field discussion board.
trackandfieldnews.com/discussion/showthread.php?143591-Robert-Harting-MOY/I cannot support that argument... i think its not valid...

@discus70queen maybe she has more information about it? -
So I contacted Robert this morning and asked him three questions. Have a look at the answers.
Exclusive Interview with Robert Harting about the IAAF AOY nomination | Throwholics
I wish the Frenchman would mirror Harting here.
To be honest, I do not think that anyone else would have the balls as Harting does...

trackandfieldnews.com/discussion/showthread.php?143591-Robert-Harting-MOY/Many thanks for pointing me to that thread. It's amazing what nasty lengths some people will go to to defend their own sacred cows. Chilling.
All the best.

Youre welcome.
Would have been nice to have such a huge discussion here on social.throwholics....
But maybe in the future there will be more active members around -
How does one consider the past history of PED use in the German Federation?
-
Mhh Why did Robert not mention the others? Such as Perkovic?
She is not considered for the same award (she would be on the female side) maybe. Also, her testing issue was different than the American sprinter.
-
We can say that about anyone.Harting is certainly throwing down the idea that he is, and always has been clean. So many other athletes aren't going to make that stance, because they can't. . . . right?

But do they all not pretend to be drug free? What do they care if they are caught later?
-
Sadly Harting is one of the few who care. Many others just want to make what little money they can and move on.
-
Finally someone is willing to stand-up and stick it to the IAAF. I would assume Harting is too popular to be blackballed from the Diamond League series. One worry is that the old coots at the IAAF and IOC have long memories.
No question there is a risk of getting frozen out by the IAAF goons. The agents and IAAF are the ones making the $$$ in Athletics and they care little for the athletes that do not line their pockets. The hammer is not a 'money' event, it's out of the Diamond League. I wonder how many throwers would not find their name on a DL start list if they spoke out against the IAAF.

There is always a question as to the the future until it happens. I do not see the Gatlin nomination as an all-IAAF decision.
If the IAAF did not allow the athletes back they would be in court and lose. I do not think they would be allowed to give lifetime ban to someone for 1st offense. Maybe. -
Look, when Gatlin comes back and is better off drugs than he was on drugs -- come on man.
-
I hope this starts a chain reaction and the IAAF will bring harsher sanctions against dopers.
