Hey guys, I was beginning to write out my personal goals for the season (which starts for me in 3 weeks ) and I became interested in what everybody else might be working towards. This applies to everybody, athletes, coaches, spectators alike. It doesn't need to just include marks it could be anything like a certain weight of lift you want to do or GPA you want to achieve or something. So throwholics, what do you want to accomplish this year?
What are your personal goals for the upcoming year?

Since I'm "just" a fan I'm really looking forward to the World Championships in Bijing....
Especially the hammer event will be better off since the qualification standards have been dropped a bit.New qualification system introduced for IAAF World Championships | iaaf.org

I would love to see more throwing on TV...
-
Great question for sure.
Maybe some athletes would love to jump in on that?

I don't want to come of as someone who thinks to much of myself but since we're sharing our goals , I thought why not say mine . I am hoping to take a medal in shot put or discus at the youth worlds next year.

That's a great goal!
What are your personal bests?
How much do think you would need to improve to achieve that? -
The medal in the world youths is quite a task! good luck with that! I'm on my first year in college and my goals for this year are
Discus Throw (2K): 52 Meters, roughly 170 Feet
Hammer Throw (16LB) : 50 Meters, roughly 164 feet
Clean: 150K
Squat: 455
Bench: 350
GPA: 3.2 -
my personal bests are - 19.64m in shot put and 59.8 in discus and I think I would have to improve about 3-5m in the disc and about a meter in the shot to have a chance to medal
thank you for your interest in my goal

Do you know any of your competitors? Are you i contact with any of them?
-
I know two guys in South Africa who are both still 16 years old like me and both of them are on about 61 - 62 but I don't really have compitition in the shot put . I have also seen about 4 - 5 guys on the iaaf youth ranking list (in shot put and discus) who are throwin very close to or further then my marks. However, even though we are 3 guys on about 60m mysel on 19m in the shot , we are not on the iaaf ranking because of the poor administration in South Africa .

we are not on the iaaf ranking because of the poor administration in South Africa .
What do you mean? They do not send the results to IAAF so they get listed?
-
The problem is that since Athletics South Africa has been pretty much bankrupt , they don't have enough funds to do their job properly any more . They aren't putting the results of high school compititions on their system wich basicallialise the results is on our Nationals , this is also the only chance that I would have next year to qualify for the worlds , since it is the only compitition that my distances would be official. This huge flaw in our system means that some high school meet records are better than the national record.
-
Why don't you spread the results to the officials? Are the results online available? From your highschool pages?
Then it should not be a big problem to get listed. -
It's not "official" but I would always send my results to tilastopaja.org.
Its the best website regarding results.
Maybe this helps, not sure though... -
because the results are not 'official' any more , they don't bother weighing the implements at the track any more . That means that Athletics South Africa won't except the results . Thanx for the advice , I'll try sending it to tilastopaja . I wil also try to send the results to ASA when i have big throws anyway and see what happens.

Alright that is a big issue and I do understand why those results are not excepted anymore. But weighting the implements does not afford so much money... Crazy... -
