Badly made hammers or just unlucky?

So I brought a new hammer (head, wire and handle) just for training a few months ago which I wouldn't compete with, so I didn't spend a huge amount on it, about £40. Used it quite a few times and just like any training session I used it tonight and caged it ONCE. Has this happened to anyone else with low level hammers? Just wondering if crappy workmanship or just really unlucky.

Yes, of course.  The handle can easily bend like that depending on what part of the cage it hits. It may be possible to fix that handle using a vice before resorting to buying a new handle.
