When will you know? Will @VictorHogan be named to the squad?
-
Does anyone know what is the story with Dylan Armstrong? He seems to not be competing or in the Canadian team for Glasgow.
-
Hanging out with his Russian girlfriend, heard he was in California.
-
The 20.70m effort ranks Gill fourth in the Commonwealth this year, behind Walsh (21,26m), Jamaican O'Dayne Richards (21,11m) and Canadian Tim Nedow (20,98m). Another Canadian, Dylan Armstrong, was tipped as the early favourite but is yet to throw competitively this season.

@VictorHogan is on the SA squad. -
With a 20.60m at the Canadian Nationals Tim Nedow seems to be the biggest threat to a brace of Kiwis.
Jamaica's O'Dayne Richards has never thrown well away from home and struggled at World Indoors, not breaching 20m. Could Raymond Brown be the Jamaican to get to the podium? Doubtful.
Stephan Mozia was under 19m at World Indoors and had a so-so outdoor season. Time away from the academic pressures could give him the mental boost he needs to return to high-20m thorws.
The South Africans stay in the same time zone, giving Orazio Cremona or Jaco Engelbrecht a fighting chance to get to 20.50m, which could medal.
Nedow's countryman Justin Rodhe is an enigma, he does not seem to be in 21m form, but does he ever? I always suspect he's ready to go 21.50m, we just won't see it coming.

Sad to see only one CG athlete at the Glasgow DL meet.

To me, it's a battle for gold b/w @Tom Walsh and Jamaica's Richards, if Richards can find his 21m form. Gill and Canada's Nedow have the best chance to grab a silver if one of the big two falter, otherwise they're battling for bronze.

Qualifying results:
@Tom Walsh puts a meter on the field-but it's just qualifying.
Glasgow 2014 - Qualification Men's Shot Put1.) 21,24m @Tom Walsh
2.) 20,24m Richards (JAM)
3.) 20,03m Cremona (RSA)
4.) 19,84m Nedow (CAN)
5.) 19,54m Gill (NZL)
6.) 19,20m Birkinhead (AUS)
7.) 19,14m @Justin RODHE (CAN)
8.) 18,98m Karhana (IND)
9.) 18,90m Duquemin (Jersey) -
I noticed on Birkinheads first throw the ball bounced backwards and the official seemed to be measuring from this point not the point of impact. Surely this is not right? Although I couldn't really tell form the limited shotput I got to see maybe they were overruled by the chief official and I didnt see it.
Also if someone does a qualifying throw do they ever keep throwing for practice or is it counter productive and you should save for the final
-
O'Dayne Richards 21.61m, what a huge throw for gold.
