The format for indoors is different. Eight to the final, the comp. flows better. This way the spinners keep their rhythm. The US shot putters hold their peak from US Indoors to Worlds during this time as well (no money to chase in Europe and it is only about 7-10 days between meets). Outdoors is a different story. Two hour comps with lots of unplanned delays hurts the rhythm of the spinners, so advantage goes to gliders. When it comes to indoors, Dan O' Brien is correct, the US has dominated. If Whiting throws well, he should be over 22.30m and no one should be able to touch this. (he is defending champ and he beat Storl when Storl threw his all time PB of 21.88m). We will see how it goes.

Sure I'm american and I fully support @Ryan Whiting for sure, but he has to be careful with Storl being at his best season opening ever...
We should not take it for granted that USA will get gold again.

Is Kovacs throwing there? I see Whiting and Roberts are tweeting over there but haven't seen if Kovacs is...that world indoor breakdown is awesome for the US with very valid points.

Also, Mozia is in the NCAA system as well and is competing for Nigeria. He'll be in a tough spot because he threw at conference, now heading to Sopot, then heading to NCAA indoor in Albuquerque. Should be an intense three weeks for him.

I'm a HUGE fan of Kurt Roberts and I hope he does really well this championship season. The guy brings a ton of energy and is crazy about throwing. Ive never seen a guy so optimistic in my life. Again, I hope Whiting does well too. That silver from last year may have been a bit bittersweet for him. He also did have a newborn (who's freakin adorable) last year if I'm right. Could have maybe taken away from training that year. Understandable...

I thought Stephen Mozia was competing as well, yet he's not listed.

Very good time for wonderful experience that Mozia cannot find anywhere else.

Huge cheer as Tomasz Majewski is announced to the home crowd. No pressure.

Defending champ Ryan Whiting is the first to get the automatic qualifier in the shot with 20.75m.

Two-time world champ David Storl is just shy of the automatic qualifier with his opening attempt of 20.61m.

Argentina's German Lauro is the second automatic qualifier in the shot with 20.73m. Argentina has never won a WIC medal before.

Tomasz Majewski's second effort goes out to 20.60m. The crowd cheered, but he didn't look too impressed.

David Storl sends his shot out to 21.24m, the best mark today.
