I dont believe the weight will be added due to it not being contested internationally on a regular basis.

How much lead time would the rest of the world need to train to be prepared for 2016?Im not too sure as i am not an elite thrower but even if they did introduce it worldwide and hold comps more regularly around the world I still believe that the top european throwers would not partake in it and they may not be at the same standards as they are with the hammer as it favours different types of hammer throwers from what i've seen.
Just because you can throw the weight far doesn't necessarily mean you can throw the hammer far and vice versa.

Мун good idea, but in shot put sector it impossible...
-
@Yury Mishukov excellent point.
-
For the rest of the world it would be not a big problem to throw far with the weight. The weight throw is technically very easy, this sports needs more power than technique. The question is, what quality we need more today in the modern hammerthrow, more power or more technique? Do we need more horror technique examples in the future? I think we have anought in this days.

So they tried it out in Poland.
Weight Throw Comes to Europe
by Martin Bingisser / February 1, 2014"Would [weight throw record holder Lance Deal have beaten Yuri Sedykh in the weight throw? Throwers debate whether who would win a match-up of historic hammer throwers with the same intensity that track fans argue who would win between Bolt and Mo Farah over 600 meters."

Would the world class discus/ shot putters be able to compete agains the hammer throwers? The weight is definitely a strength event.

Weights flying in Poland.

I definitely agree with Sergej: the weight throw will hurt hammer throw results. Not only does focusing on the weight throw hurt hammer training and technique, but it means that elite athletes have 9-month long season, which also is not conducive to good hammer throw results.
But there is an upside. More weight throw competitions would mean more chances to earn prize money for athletes and a chance to get their name out there in the indoor season. More meets for throwers is always good since the current state of affairs is so terrible.
Someone like Pars could skip it and focus on the hammer, but other athletes might find it a good option. I personally wouldn't throw either. But as a fan I find it fun to see results in the winter. It is better to have the choice and turn it down that to have no choice at all.

@bingisser when you're on Dr. Bonderchuk's training schedule do you throw the 35 lb ball?
-
I personally don't care for the Weight but i have to agree with Mr Bingisser the more chances of exposure for people to see the weight/Hammer the better. This is also a way for the big guys to make some cash as well. At the younger level being a High school coach in the USA the kids throw a 25lbs & 20lbs weight. In order for my kids to get recruited by Colleges it helps if they have a good mark in the Weight Throw as so many College coaches look at the ranking lists on HSHammer.com. Also from a coaching point of view today's kids need instant feedback & get bored if they have to wait 7-8 months before they see a result. An example would be if a kid start's to train with me and is doing 45' with the Weight; and after a few weeks of learning the event he then goes to a meet and does 49-50'. Then he can see the improvement- Does that mean he's a better Hammer Thrower Not really but it does show that his rotation is getting better and he's on his way to a better performance in a few months in the Hammer.

The Indoor Weight Throw at the International Level would be awesome. Of course, my answer is biased because I like throwing the weight just as much as I do the hammer, but I like to see other countries like Europe adopt the weight throw. Warms my Heart.
-
Sure puts a damper in the idea of the weight throw at the Indoor Worlds in Portland USA. If someone does not want hammer why would they want weight?
-
Sorry Dirk, I don't check in here often and just saw your reply. We don't throw the 35-pound weight in training. In college I threw it, but would throw it only at competitions and perhaps an additional 10-15 throws the week before if needed. I still got up to 20.42m, which was not bad considering my strength levels at the time. I am definitely not a tall power thrower that would be able to pick up the weight and launch it without much training for it.
