It probably depends on what your after.
There are several things to consider:
The last shoe I used to throw back in 2009 was the Adidas Adistar Discus
Florian van Dijck
Well as far as i know these shoes are off the market now unfortunately .
My event is the discus throw and i consider myself having a fast technique but right now i am in a dillema because i dont know whether to purchase the rotational 5 again or to go for sd3's (addidas is out of the question as of their price but their 2014 collection colour rocks instead of nike's pinkpurple )
Yeah they are off he market for sure. But every year this show comes back in a new color. I don't really know which is the latest version. Maybe my little brother can help out with that @Phillip van Dijck ? Could you let us know whats the latest? Do you have a picture Phillip?
i got lucky enough to find a pair of the white sd3s and i must say i really like them

I think they are red on black.
you really cant go wrong with either one. I have always used rotationals special for shot and disc. Although in my personal opinion there probably not the best designed for discus the previous models are. the rotational 4 or 3 are awesome! but the new design is made so that even beginners or intermediate rotate on the ball of there foot instead of the outside of them. if you wanted disc only shoes id look at saucony unleashed as well its pretty much made for discus and shot specific, not really hammer. if you did want to go with any later models id go with ebay they always have random stuff like older shoes and implements. so personal opinion as a sneaker head zoom rotational 3 best throwing shoe ive ever had for disc and shot combo but hammer and disc combo ill go with rotational 5 its easier to transition from heel to toe and it still has some what of a bum towards the front, but if its your first pair of throwing shoes be warned you will fall on your butt if you try and gun it in the rotationals because the rubber is so fast
And what are the inputs of the elite throwers and coaches here?
@Adrian Annus @jason dadz morgan @Jason Young @John Godina @John Smith @kathrinklaas @Kibwé Johnson @Mac Wilkins @Omar El Ghazaly @pagelshot @Reese Hoffa @ReneSack @RODHETHROWS @Sergej Litvinov @Smithy @Tony Ciarelli @Wrucky @Yury Mishukov
What would you recommend?
The Nike Zoom Rotational 5s have been the best shoes for me. I used to throw in the SD3s when I was too fast for my own good, but now I've learned to hold positions. The new rotationals help the rhythm and flow of the throw build a bit better. I LOVE the new all black 5s and I don't mind the pinkish red color either.

I would like to see Puma get back in the throwing shoe game.
VS Centrifugal and VS Vortex 2
Saucony Lanzar Javelin and Saucony Unleash SD
ASICS Cyber Javelin, ASICS Cyber Throw London and ASICS Hyper Throw 2
Adidas adiZERO Discus/Hammer and Adidas adiZERO Javelin 2
Nike Zoom Javelin Elite 2, Nike Zoom Rival SD, Nike Zoom SD 3, and Nike Zoom Rotational 5
I am not sure New Balance or Mizuno are still making throwing shoes.
I own the Nike SD i very much enjoy them but I only use them for Gliding and sometimes indoor weight. If you throw discus you might want to check out the Saucony Sd it is really fast show but has good grip for those rainy days. I wear both the Saucony and Nike and I can tell you that they really compliment each other well.
Well guys i ve own the rotational 5 now ( used asics cyber throw before them ) and iam wondering whether its worth to change into the sd3's or to stick on a repurchase of the rotational 5 which were awesome for me i can say.
Has anyone used both these shoes for discus to help me decide
