Weight Room # | Who Lifts How Much?

  • 27 years old, 6'3", shot 12.93m, discus 44.90m, hammer 43.75m

Cleans (hang and full) - 110kg
    Snatch - 80kg
    Jerk - 90kg / Behind neck jerk - 110kg
    Deadlift - 205kg
    Front squat - 125kg
Back squat - 185kg (to parallel), 150kg (deep)
    Bench press - 120kg

I very rarely manage to do any over head lifts, since the ceilings in my gym are so low!

Spent a lot of this winter trying to get fitter, leaner and meaner, so lots of running hills, jumps etc. As you can see from my lifts, I'm not really strong enough to carry much excess weight! :P

  • INTERVIEW WITH 2004 OLYMPIC SHOT PUT GOLD MEDALIST ADAM NELSON

  • With or without what, Ben?

oh, no....I posted 'raw, ass-to-the-grass squats' and those deads are raw, as well. Normally, if someone is posting they do ass-to-the-grass, you can bet 99% of them are raw lifters...people who do them are the animals of the weight room, bar none. Christ, over 500/550lb, whiting doesn't even go parallel...don't say it, I know he has the world best this year

oh and FYI, yes, Bloomer had some HUGE legs, I wouldn't doubt a parallel in excess of 700lb raw(not sure of 400kg), he was a beast, fellow NY'er, met him a few times, but, once again, personality differences...they say if you get too many alphas in a room together things can take a downturn in no time flat and from my experience it's better to just keep the lip zipped

  • Mi event is the shot put, im 6,1 tall (1.84 m.) My PB is 17,09 (glide). im 23

    -Bench 180k.
    -Deathlift 200k.
    -Back squat 230k.
    -Front squat 200k.
    -Clean 160k.
    -Snatch 110k.

How far should i be throwing with spin? (only a estimate)

  • I haven't thrown for 2 years since I competed in Junior College, but when I was there my numbers:

    425 lb - Bench Press
    585 lb - Squat
    285 lb - Clean

Didn't do any dead lifts so I don't have numbers for that.

Also I wanted to try 600 lb for squat on our max day, but my coach didn't let me since I had already did my 3 max attempts even though I didn't miss any. I think I could have gotten at least 600 that day though.

All you guys are beasts! I am looking thinking about getting back into shot since it is just so much fun, even if it just for the hell of it.

  • Well, Mati, my own transition from the glide began several years ago before I stopped throwing for 10yrs(at that time my rotation was only about 17.5m, having practiced for a month, but I had been throwing for 10yrs). But having picked it back up less than a year ago, I quickly exceeded my gliding PR of 19m by about 1.5m. I regularly exceed 20m practicing, currently working with different shot weight combinations. At 6'1", I'd say it would definitely get you through the ring faster. Personally, I couldn't imagine someone with shorter levers NOT rotating. Europe needs to start rotating if they want 22m+ throws.

Just start up, shoulder-width stance/shift left/open wide left leg/start slow...if you can feel the rotation and learn to channel that central axis of rotation of the ball through the middle of the circle, you're cooking with gas. You may be able to gain 1-2m relatively quickly(within 6 months). Gotta watch it, though, you can generate uncontrollable speed when you're really going for it and let's just say I've fallen over my share of toe boards in the last 8/9 months.

Thanks for your comment Odysseus, im going to give it a try to spin and see how it goes in a few months. Cheers!
