Seeing it's below 0˚ in much of North America––what are you things you do to be able to throw outside in the dead of winter?

Sultana Frizell, @'Megann Rodhe' and @eveltrak seem to be outside daily (see photos). Maybe one or all of them would be willing to share how they handle throwing in the mountains of British Columbia?

In this photo it looks like coach Evely has a burn barrel.

It shows true dedication to work in cold temperatures. In New York we try to train all year round but sometimes you have to err on the side of caution when it becomes icy for my students to drive to training etc. Also while working in cold temps its important to throw a lot of implements so as to spend as little time outside as possible. Throwing with one Hammer 40 throws will take to long but 5-6 Hammers at the same time and your done in 45-50minutes.
-
When a student has to train in harsh conditions they will train the mind as much as the body. This can help them learn to be at the top when it matters to win a medal.
-
We keep our shot puts in a 5 gallon bucket of steaming hot water. Keeps them nice and toasty.

Dirk, that's a great idea!
It isn't below zero Fahrenheit in lubbockLubbock, Texas today. Had a bit of a cool front move in, so at the start of training it is 14 Fahrenheit/ -10celsius this morning. I feel quite lucky though. There is very little wind and no precipitation.... beautiful!
Training gear:
1 Pair Snowboarding socks
2 pairs long tight
sweat pants for warmup
1 Short sleeve
1 longsleeve
sweat jacket for warmup
ear and mouth cover
bunch of caffeinelets have a blast!
Good luck to those up north!

For the outdoor throwing in winter that I have done in Canada this is what I have done.
Cleaning items:
Shovel
Broom
Salt
plywood board or tarp
rope.
Towels and lots of themUsually I'll clean out the circle the day before salt it and cover it so I don't have to clean it out again.
Apparel:
Winter compression gear. Long shirt and tights (this is help the most with the sweat)
Sweat pants with shorts underneath
Long sleeve shirt and a t-shirt
Thermal Socks
Sweater
Hat and gloves.
Blanket for in between throws
Garbage Bags(For putting over your shoes so they stay dry when getting implements)Really it doesn't take much just layer up and bring a thermos of coffee or anything warm.
-
In the past two years, I have used a pair of yellow over boots and a large pair of water proof mittens when retrieving implements, so far has been working great!
If you're without boots, using a couple grocery bags over your socks does a great job keeping your feet dry, just takes some getting used to. -

You're right. @Norm Zylstra who posted the video?
Or maybe @Megann Rodhe or @eveltrak will let us know.

Maybe they would be willing to post the video on YouTube or Vimeo?

We'll see what they decide. I assume one can change the privacy setting for one Facebook video.

I make sure my kids buy and use plenty of sunscreen during the hostile winter months of Southern California!

I once saw a photo of some Scandinavians throwing discus in the snow.
They had a grate over a burn barrel. On the grate was a cookie try filled with sand. The discii would warm while laying in the sand.
Someday I'll find those photos. -
@pagelshot Californian weather is the best
