I think the answer to the question regarding what has happened to the site has to do with two factors. The growing list of other distractions on the Internet has certainly played a role, but more importantly a lack of concerted effort to stimulate formative discussion.

My approach to this forum has been to try and motivate compelling conversation, and for a long time I worked hard at trying to both get provocative commentary going or improve/maneuver it to a more productive level. I just got tired of the lack of takers, or the less informed level of discussion that has seemed to prevail.

For retired throwers not as close to what is going on these days in the sport the primary interest is essentially two things: 1)Keeping up with what's happening with the subsequent generations, 2) Imparting knowledge and historical context. I have concluded there doesn't seem to be as much interest in the second among the younger participants, or that there are better vehicles for them to get what they were taking from The Ring in the past.

Maybe that is where the two aforementioned points intersect.
Or maybe what people from prior era's have to say is becoming outdated and less relevant, which is a distinct possibility.
