Quote from Scott B.
did anyone else see the huge foul Christian had in the 6th round??? Looked like it was pretty close to 73 feet. I think he's got something up his sleeve for worlds.

Are there any shot put videos from this weekend; Dylan or U.S. Nationals?

Thanks Polakos for posting the link to that.
Perfect example of how Athletics Canada and the meet organizers in Calgary missed a great opportunity to market the event. You don't have sector lines down for the National Champs? How about a line for the Canadian Record. What a shame.
The throws almost across the board were very good for a Canadian Champs. Lots of good battles for different titles (except Men's shot) and for various places.

I just revised my 2011 college throwing program rankings. For the first time this year, I have combined all divisions/associations, and I use a logistic function to score the marks.
Earlier in the month, I put up a preliminary ranking based on a linear function, for Div. I only. The revision changes some of the placings, but Nebraska is still #1.

The coverage is a shame. The video looks like it's a Tuesday high school meet.

Good work published by Tony Dziepak (see above). Some surprises on the list, for me, along with the perennial great programs always at or near the top.
I still think that for so many colleges that simply cannot contend with the huge state school budgets on a dollar-for-dollar basis, that working on a specialized program is a good way to garner some national attention, maybe an Olympian, a national champion for good school media coverage.
Nice, too, to have a bunch of kids who can encourage and work with each other. Better this than a small t&f budget watered down trying to slot in athletes in every event.
SMU specialized quite a bit with throwers a decade ago with great success as did nearby TCU using sprinters in its case. With both of these particular specialties (throws and sprints) you can recruit athletes who often can compete very effectively in more than one event. I guess, too, that these two specialties also work well with football programs. I suspect the football coach might like a top class shot-putter or a sprinter over recruiting an 800 meter runner.
Tony, the s-curve statistic seems like a reasonable way to approach a fair ranking.

I just updated my combos lists, including an adjustment for the new women's hammer WR, which changes slightly the rankings and order of the combo lists that include women's hammer. I also added some new throwers from the POP lists. Help me find additions and corrections.

Can someone direct me to a list (or type one out) of EVERYTHING you would need to have or know to build a new throwing area. I want to sound like I know what I am doing. Like I mean every detail such as an auger (big drill thingie) for the concrete cylinders!
I'd like to avoid using terms like "the big drill thingie" and "the concrete guy" and so forth.
thnx
