I am not sure why people continue to talk about the poor coverage of the throws. Yes I would love to watch a lot of the discus, hammer, and jav, but we all know that is not going to happen. If you do not know whats going on in those events it loses its appeal after a couple of throws. Also if you are not paying attention you have no idea who is winning. People that are not in the sport will always want to see the 100m and Shot Put because tehy can relate to those. Also when you really think about it, if they showed even the final round of the discus it would be kind of boring for the average thrower because of the time between throws.
I am all for TV coverage of the throws, but I dont think its gonna happen and get a little tired of hearing people complain about the same thing. Only thing we can hope for is that big meets will do they same thing that NCAA's did and show field events on their own streamed website.published at Jun 26th 2010 2:23am on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/

The reason the shot gets good coverage compared to the other throwing events because the US typically has 4-5 of the top ten throwers in the world.
Does a subpar discus, javelin or hammer comp deserve coverage?published at Jun 26th 2010 3:37am on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/

we threw in the other circle which gave us a 15-20mph tail wind

The interest level would be higher with bigger performances. We should not judge here though as we don't know what the conditions our discus throwers faced in this competition. Iowa and much of the midwest does not sound like the weather and discus rings are set up for optimum performances. I know Drake can be god but I don't know what happened today.

Having thrown a lot of disc and watched a lot of those guys and having been there today I can say it was at least a -3m wind out there, nothing was flying at all. (-3m meaning you lose about 3m)

would be Kara Patterson's US record- the #4 performance in the world. Just because M DT conditions/results were down doesn't mean other throws were poor as well. Top 2 in both Jr M&W javelin PR'd by big margins to make World team.... nothing to sneeze at there, either.
If you think the general TV population gets bored easily then why choose to show every step of the M&W 5,000? TV producers can edit video to make any competition interesting to the casual fan.... the 2000 Trials mens shot 1988 Olympics men's shot & javelin come to mind as examples.published at Jun 26th 2010 12:55pm on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/

Great comp in the men's hammer yesterday. Second best throw ever for Freeman to win (his best mark is at Princeton). PR for Johnson for 2nd place (not counting the downhill Marietta mark). And, biggest of all, a 3m+ PR for Loftin. He took four years off (his PR was from 2004) and now has truly returned to form. His mark is actually a 4m PR for his second hammer career.
This is all not to mention the new junior record set by McCullough and 70m throw for Justin Welch. Let's see if the women can match this. If so, we might see an AR.

Having been there quite few times due to high school throwing in Iowa all I can say is it tends to be "all over the place" at times. If they threw where they did this year at Drake. It has sorta like hills around it and it's "down in" if that makes sense. One second you think it's a right cross then it switches.
Let's just say the wind seems to be "turbulent" there and unpredictable based on what I have seen the last 2 years (our state meet is there too). So, I am not surprised distances were down.published at Jun 26th 2010 2:27pm on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/

Lysenko threw 76.03m today in Moscow. That's the second best mark in the world this year. Moreno also improved her SB considerably to 75.19m (5th best this year). Results here.
In Germany, Harting threw 67.62m to beat Harradine (who had a SB of 64.68m).published at Jun 26th 2010 7:35pm on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/

We are taking some of our kids up to Iron Wood and have run into a bit of a problem. Our best kid decided he wants to go up. The only issue is that we are taking a 7 seat vehicle and he is our 8th person. I really don't want to have to leave him here. He is going to be a senior and just finished his first season of throwing at 54 and 136 in the disc. Is there any chance that some of you ringers are driving from Northern California?

Quote from Mr.Incredible
Could they have picked a worst facility for Nationals. When I am watching it on TV and see the infield, I think more of the upcoming football season than I do of Track And Field. As they were showing the running events there wasn't even any people in the stands on the backstretch. You would think that the USATF could get it right and have the meet at a facility that is constructed for Track and Field alone, and all of the field events are run in the infield. Keep it at Hayward every year.
