Another thing, when was the last time we were "beaten" in T&F by another country? Maybe Jamaica has us in the sprints lately, and Germany the throws, and Estonia has had ONE medal winner lately...but look at our medal counts at the past two major championships. 08' Olympics we got 7 Golds and 23 medals total, both figures more than any other country. In Berlin it was 10 gold medals and 22 total medals, again more than any other country. Overall, we are still the world's number 1 track and field nation.

Now, god only knows what we'd be capable of if track was more popular, well run and attracted more talent...

Newport is a battle zone every year. We have a top ranked swimming program (multiple Olympians) The water polo team's looks like the Russian teams(multiple Olympians). They are the biggest guys and girls on campus, much bigger than our football team. The boy's and girls volleyball team's are yearly ranked in the top in the Nation(multiple Olympians) Club is what kills us on the girls side not the school programs. They all play club volleyball and water polo so their weekends are taken and they have practice year round so no track. I've got twenty throwers, all boys, but when the girls water polo and volleyball teams walk by there are a ton I wish I had.

A couple of quick thoughts.
1) Cut some 2 x 4's about a foot long and pound 2-nails in it to hold the hammer handle in the middle. Very hard to DRAG this has the thrower hold the ends of the 2 x 4 which are roughly shouler -width apart.

2) Making the hammer longer by adding master-links...creates a FEELING of patience in the turns. (note: if you have a local Harbor Freight they carry them)

3) Dont be afraid to put a little sand down on your drill pad surface too encourage turning.

When Arroyo Grande was coming in every year large and in charge the coach told me how he did it. He had the senoirs recruiting for him at the Jr -high level. He would put on a throws demo/clinic then go after the star athletes.

This produced a group one year where rhe "3rd-thrower"threw shot 64' 6"....lol
