I went out this morning and turned an 3' High x 8' wide heavy plastic water tough over on top the pad and placed a heat lamp with a dome on to move the heat out across the surface. I'll see how that does.Just a thought if others find themselves in this situation. I got the water tough from a friend that bought it at a Farm and home Center.

Following up on hammer 7 26 and the Kaptain's post, here's my little garage gym. I bought the rack and Cybex bench at an auction at Univ. of Washington for $80 each.
I took off the base of the power rack and bolted it to the cement floor, and also to the rafters above. I needed to put the center wooden part of the platform on hinges to have enough room to do overhead work. Snatches are fine, but the ceiling is too low for jerks with the center of the platform in place!

Quote from Brad Reid
Ron Drummond gave up his spot for dental school and Des Koch filled in admirably earning a bronze medal at the 1956 Olympics in the discus.
Ron had won the NCAAs and Open Nationals in 1956. He was well ahead of Al Oerter's relatively weak NCAA performance that year. Ron was third in the Trials as Oerter had a good meet finishing second ahead of him.
It is another one of those interesting things that had to happen for Oerter to rack up 4 successive victories, the first in 1956 where he was truly a long shot more so than the other Olympics, I think. Drummond didn't throw and Sim Iness, the 1952 gold medal winner didn't defend.
***Gary, the "marathoner" almost snatched twice his bodyweight!!! Clue... still lifting as a master competitor.

In 1984 Oregon brought me to Eugene and sat me down next to John Powell and 14,000 other folks to watch the Men's Prefontaine discus throw. Art Burns dropped a 233' bomb right into the corner of the right hand sector. I signed.

The 2nd Annual Rock and Roll Throw Off will take place Saturday January 23rd at Lancaster Field House, just outside of Buffalo, New York. This is a throws only meet featuring men and women of high school, colligiate, open, and masters competition in the shot put and weight throw.
Lancaster provides a state of the art field house as well as an NCAA official cage. An advanced sound system creates a LOUD atmosphere to create energy and DEEP throws, much like the Milrose Games.
Last years event brought 2004 and 2008 Olympian AG Kruger, Thomas Jacob Freeman, and #5 in the US, shot putter Sheldon Battle along with Bryan Vickers of Ashland Elite. Many high school, open, and masters athletes across Western New York competed as well as across the state and north east.
This meet is USATF certified and features USATF officials. All marks are deemed eligible by high school standards as well as IAAF sanctioned.
The meet will start at 2pm and lead into an elite competion starting promptly at 7pm.
Entries are now being accepted, $10 for Open and Masters, free for all high school competition.

Quote from 70footer
you were THERE when Brenner and Carter squared off?? that was historical , I would love to see film IF you have any.... as I recall Carter had never been beaten in his career at NCAAs , and goes in and throws 70 feet even to open , Brenner comes up for his opener and goes 70'4'' , carter comes back with 70'10'' and John puts one over the 71 foot line to go into the lead with the last round to come...Carter then goes 71'4'' and Brenner mops up putting it out on the lawn at 71'10''
I 'm sure the distaces are not completely correct but wow what a throw comp.published at Jan 1st 2010 7:42pm on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/

Yes, i was there. I may, not sure, have Super 8 film of it. I have a shoe box full of Super 8 film (including the 1983 TAC mens shot mentioned earlier) and was coaching at the time and I know I have NCAA footage of other meets so there's a chance I have that shot comp as well. I was directly behind the ring: your account is pretty spot on, as I remember. That meet was Carter's only NCAA loss- in his last NCAA meet- and it was his first meet topping 70' and there was a hellava back and forth between the two. Brenner did win on his last effort when Carter could not respond- he threw last as he was leading after Q round but Brenner's near 72' throw was more than MC could beat.
I shot video of Nelson's throw (and the rest of that comp) sitting at about 80' right in front of the ring at Stanford. Bombs thrown at me.... awesome!published at Jan 1st 2010 9:52pm on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/

If you have video of that NCAA shot competition I can get your Super 8 film developed by a reliable lab.
