Looking around IAAF's site, there is nothing that says Devyatovskiy or Tikhon is banned much less that they even tested positive at the Olympics. It still shows both of them having medaled...

Here is a nutrition article I wrote on cholesterol. Feel free to check it out...it deals with training because of the importance on overall health, recovery and nervous system function.

I think I just got a much needed reality check.
My 76 year old workout partner called me up to say he's starting a new workout regime and needs his 56lb throwing weight back because it will be at the core of his new training system. WTF!published at Sep 19th 2009 2:46am on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/

More power to him ... I've been trying to convince people that the 56# superweight is actually a good thing for you. Unfortunately, most just look at me like I'm deranged.

Both throwers with the help of the Belarus olympic association have hired the top British lawyer for drug testing. I think he did the Diane Modal case. so i guess their case is still pending???

Had I thought harder about it, the list of 76 year-olds training with a 56 pound weight would have had only one name on it.
Have fun trying to keep up with him.published at Sep 19th 2009 11:08am on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/

Well, now that someone has mentioned it, last news I can find says that we are indeed in for some wait while CAS makes a decision about the appeal: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/mma/01/06/belarusian-olympics.ap/index.html
Does anyone know of anything new with this case?
In the mean time, I don't feel it was fair of me to call Tsikhan a cheater. That being said, I remember Annus making a similar appeal and then not hearing anything... and as far as I know Murofushi still has the gold medal from '04. So I am extremely skeptical but suppose I will wait until we get an answer.
I think there's good reason to get upset when people give respect to cheaters. When I think about doping, I think about clean athletes who came in 9th place. What would it have meant to them to have experienced the dream of an olympic/WC/major final. Who knows how things may have turned out differently. We've seen how far Fazekas throws clean... How would things have played out if he were the clean Fazekas throwing 59-61m? Redistributing medals can't change any of that. Doping does irreversible harm to the sport and major competitions, clean athletes who work their whole lives, etc... Banned substances are rules just like any other like fouling or having a legal implement. You can question the validity of those rules or doping all you want: why is the circle that size? does it really matter if someone barely toe fouls? why do shotputters get a toe board? why does a discus have to weight 2kg? why are these substances illegal? Doesn't matter. When you show up to compete, you're agreeing to play within those rules so you can be compared to the other athletes fairly. If you don't like those rules, start a new sport. In my mind, doping is no different than firing your implement out of a cannon. You're playing by different rules, can't be compared to the set of people playing by the same rules. Congraduf*ckinglations on your dirty throw, unfortunately we're only giving gold medals to people who pass drug tests.
One other thing, this notion that dirty athletes still deserve respect for their technique? When you show up to practice everyday not tired, nervous system ready to go, stronger to move through demanding technical positions, your technique will be better. There are too many training cross-overs to isolate technique from doping.
Hannes Hopley. 8th place Athens Olympics. Only got 3 throws. Go tell him you appreciate Fazekas for his technique.published at Sep 19th 2009 3:01pm on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/

Going out to throw with Gary Kelmenson this morning.
On Saturdays we take 6 throws with the 56,35,25, 16# hammer, 2k discus and 16# shot.
I'm 60, and Gary will be 60 shortly.
Trick with the 56, make sure you throw it or it throws you.published at Sep 20th 2009 12:31am on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/
