So I have this freshman girl who already can spin the shot out just shy of 30 feet and probably can throw the disc 100 at the least... one prob though. For the life of me I cannot get her to push the disc out of the front of her hand. She'll bowl the disc fine as long as shes facing the target and only moving her arm forward and backward with no rotation. The moment I have her stand with her side to the direction shes throwing or put any kind of rotation to her arm movement shell go back to throwing it off her pinky.
So heres what Im asking. How can get her to stop this mess. I figure well just keep doing release drills until hopefully one day it happens but if anyone here has some tricks I havnt heard of Id love to hear 'em.

What I'm curious about is the John Godina World Throws Center mentioned in the article. That seems to be kind of a big deal but I can't find anything about it. Anybody know any more info?

Try creating a situation where that movement becomes harder and harder to achieve.
A simple solution is to slow things down. Over exaggerate legs preceding the upper body. The throw is created by the legs, not the arms. (little ques like that might help) A focal point at 12 o clock also might work. It would be really hard to throw the discus the way shes doing it with a really big delay or drag.

1. Point the thumb at the release
2. Rig something up so her elbow cannot bend

and finger roll with that wet bar of soap and catch the soap with the other hand. And is she using her upper body as well when she releases the discus?

Can anyone enter the US Indoor Nationals Meet who does NOT meet the qualifying standards?
The reason why I am asking this question is because I was looking at the entries for this weekend, and noticed that some athletes were declared without meeting the qualifying standard.
Have the meet directors allowed competitors to enter who have not met the standards to fill the fields? I just thought this was curious.
I tried looking for "B" standards, but could not find any. Are there "B" standards for US Indoor Nationals?
Thank you very much.

Thanks for the input. Ill be trying some of these ideas next week granted it doesnt snow a foot. (northeast ohio... grrr)
So far ive tried bowling, dropping, finger push drills and so far she got ahold of one that literally sailed 70 feet from like a half wind slap motion.
Might even try the kilt idea.... maybe
Needless to say once I get this girl throwing right Ill be a pretty happy coach =)published at Feb 28th 2009 10:39am on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/

Usually when the discus os coming out of the back of the hand the thrower is bending at the elbow and pulling with the biceps. This movement rotates around the front rim of the discus at delivery.
