Great to have that 4 year old monkey off his back completely! I think even after qualifying in the trials, there was still some question about his ability to come through in the big one. There's no better way to dispel that than coming through in the 6th round of the Olympics for a silver medal! Well ok there is one better way, but still...

What a great way to kick off fatherhood.

I certainly hope one of the participants in China illuminates us with a personal account of the proceedings :)

Hurray for da Girls!! The US Women are doing so well. Ya think NBC will bother to show any tonight? We wouldn't want to encourage young girls to throw on the track team, but we'll see every minute of Tyson Gay tieing up his spikes in the semi finals and then they'll interview him about whether he uses the "bunny ear technique.'

not so surprising. Going back to 1972 Munich Games when "banned for life" Wladyslaw Komar (who's Oldfield-like antics pre-dated Big O) upset the form charts and beat US greats Oldfield, Feuerbach & Woods as well as a strong DDR squad. Then 1983 World Champs gave us Eduard Sarul who came from nowhere to PR big and best Udo Beyer, Dave Laut and others more highly rated. Now Majewski lives up to his promise of the last 2-3 years of steady improvement in distance and big meet results.
By this formula, some unknown Pole will win the shot at the 2033 World Championships.... mark it down :)

I'm so disapointed for Nellie and Reese. They have been such great ambassadors for our sport. So much is put on the Oly medals that it tarnishes their past accomplishments to a degree. Maybe the pressure that we all would have liked to experience was too much, maybe Adam's recent injury was too much. Thanks Adam and Reese for the great year and congrats to Christian's Silver. I hope you guys use the rest of the Summer to knock off the WR. Whatever the case dependable tech will always prevail.
