I have never had the experience of throwing in a qualifying round situation, but if you threw 20m like Whiting, Taylor, or Winger, why would you take any more throws? I like how Nelson, Cantwell, and Hoffa, threw their 1st throws and said see ya later. It's not like 20m won't qualify? Was there an automatic mark?

Qualifying day is just that, some will take 1 throw, others take more for the reason to Qualify. Rob mentioned there is a gap between 3rd and the rest of the pack. In the "Mens Shot" the throwing is later today and any of the 12 could make the team. Yes, we have our favorites and one of mine is not there today but maybe that comes from experience. So lets get back to business. The Men's Shot goes at 4:40....PST....and by 5:30 or right around there, there will be 3 excited be guys taking a victory lap around Hayward Field with 17,000+ people/fans cheering them on. That will be a awesome site to see. Remember, Today is the day that those 12 athletes get down to business! Goosebumps!

as coach Rodney said the real thing is today , and the auto qualifier is 67'7'' , so unless you have hit that, (only the top 3 did) you are not officially in, so I expect that most took more throws to make sure they covered the gap as much as possible but also TRIALS is a pressure cooker and if it were me, unless I was as experienced as those top 3 are , I would be taking more throws just to get comfortable with the ring and with all what was going on. but as you saw the real pros walk out of the ring without another thought, get past qualifying and go home and get ready...because TODAY is when the shit hits the fan HARD!

good luck to all of you! and in the words of BRIAN OLDFIELD ...
"pressure comes from the inside , remember it is just another meet in another ring just like the one back home"

Nothing has been said about this. Take a look at the schedule of events. Men's shot Q was Friday and the Finals are today (Saturday). Women's Discus Q was Friday and their F are Sunday...A day of rest between. The Women's Javelin Q is Today/Saturday and F are Monday. The Men's Hammer Q is Monday....Then you have the 2 day break. Their F is next Friday, that is a 4 day break! Now the Womens Hammer Q is Thursday their F is Saturday, The Men's Discus Q is Thursday and F is Sunday....2 days rest. The Womens' shot Q is Thursday and F is Saturday and the men's Javelin Q is Friday Their F is Sunday.

Why did the Men's shot have less then 24 hours of rest between the Q and F and the other events have at least 1 day in between? Is it unfair to the Men's shot to have no rest? or did they arrange it that way so the shot putters can get out of town, head to Europe and make some money?

The point of my post on the schedule is the men's shot only as less then 24 hr rest, where the other events have day to days between. You would think that each event would Q one day and the F would be the next, who makes up the schedules? The schedule at the trials was made by someone from the US Olympic Committee in charge of schedules. Question would be, is the Olympic Games schedule simular to the trials? Someone check it out !!!

I'm shaking me cage and can't get out.....Who made that schedule! But I saw pictures of the place and what a setting and I envy those that are there like Coach Mac, Ironman, just to name a few! I wanted to get that French Toast with berries and yogat.....YUM...The Original Pancake place doesn't compare...but have had many of breakfast there with the Great One...Stuart Togher....I'm missing the Northwest!
