You have to do it a few time to figure out the number of wraps per finger it takes to get your desired thickness.

It is really only a meet thing...it is about good for your warm-ups and comp throws. Pretty spendy to do for practices. It is a different feel; you would obviously want to try it at practice first before in a meet (like everything else meet-related).

Be advised however. I've actually been to a couple meets where they have told me I was not allowed to do that. It is bullshit, but Keep a Glove with you just in case.

Garrett is all about goal setting and achieving, and I, for one would never bet against him achieving any target that he sets himself.

He graduated from FSU in 3 years with good enough grades to gain a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford, while working 20hrs a week in the Governors Office working on the Governors Haiti Advisory Group. While doing this he also managed to win the NCAA Indoors and Out in the Shot, recording the 5th best Throw in the US and 11th best in the World in 2006, and this was achieved only one year after recovering from a serious (and life threatening) illness that caused him to lose 50lbs and spend weeks in hospital.

Having now settled into the Oxford life and the lack of decent actually any) training facilities, where he has not even mentioned to any of his professors that he is an athlete, let alone an active athlete, for fear that they will believe that he is not taking his studies seriously. They still have no idea that he has been travelling to competitions in Dakar, Doha and even making the Grand Prix Final in Stuttgart last year, which therfore implies that he is one of the Top 8 Shot Putters in the world.

Now he is finishing up his Masters Thesis early in the next few weeks, so that he will be able to go back to his college coach to prepare for the US Olympic Trials, as he has not really had any consistant coaching input for the past 18 months. Yet with all this going on, he was still able to PR last weekend in winning the UK Championships by nearly 3m and breaking the Championship Record which has stood to Geoff Capes for the past 31 years.

While talking technique with him last year and looking at Nelson, Hoffa, Cantwell and Godina, comparing the techniques to his and looking at areas for him to work on in order to bridge the gap form his 68' pr to their 72' distances, Garrett was not phased and merely informed me that he had had a 71'10" foul earier that year so knew what it was like to throw "far".

When it comes to the Olympic Trials, it is all about who handles the pressure best and some people will always mess up and some people will surprise, which is what Nelson did in 2000, and even Noah Bryant at last years USA Champs. Whatever happens, this is likely to be Garretts last year of throwing, as he has bigger and better goals to pursue in the future.

If he has his mind set on making the US Olympic Team this year, then Reese, Adam and Christian would be wise to keep an eye on Garrett in Eugene. I know that they all appreciate his talent and ability, and would not underestimate his ability to achieve great things.

Do not bet against him!

I also have to say that along with this talent and drive and so many admirable qualities, he also happens to be one of the nicest and most gracious and thoughtful people that I have ever met.

Not only would I not be surprised if he made the US Olympic Team, I would not be surprised in the slightest if he ended up running for President one day!

Like Mr. Pickering said Garrett threw 20.66m while trying to complete the Rhodes Scholarship Program. He has no coach in England. He can't train consistently either. When he comes back to the states to train at FSU I think you will be very surprised.

As for the actual quote. A person needs to get something in their mind and believe it to accomplish it. Its great to hear him say that he will be an olympian because I know he beleives it. Whenever Garrett has told me he was going to do something he has done it and it is no different this time.
