Quote from 70footer
The suggestion to name ,names is a real bad one. There is no honor or integrity in this suggestion and is right out of ACCESS HOLLYWOOD. The fact is some choose to take drugs and most of us know who they are , and in most cases they are still champions in my book, which is all I care about. Furthermore I would suggest that if anyone does name names we should bar them from this post forever! it is a matter of personal integrity and I don't think anything more should be said about the subject.

Dear God! (this a little long, sorry)
70footer, I rarely go on this board and posts even less, but I had to re-read your post to decide if you were serious or not. I was hoping you were not. But I think you are, so I must reply.
Though naming names without actual proof (rumors only) isn't good, I wouldn't say calling known drug users out is without honor and integrity!
PEOPLE WHO TAKE DRUGS ARE THE ONES WITHOUT HONOR AND INTEGRITY!!! THEY ARE CHEATERS, THEY ARE NOT CHAMPIONS, WHO CARES HOW FAR THEY THREW, WHO CARES HOW MUCH THEY LIFTED, OR WHAT THEY DID IN PRACTICE, OR COULD HAVE THROWN CLEAN!
Working with Stewart, we focus on technique and perfecting that, getting hammer strong (so basically who cares about how much we squat if it doesn't go into the throw) and don't focus on what the drug people do because how will that help me throw further in any way?!?
Agree or disagree, drug users are a disgrace to our sport and our country and is a black eye on the intregity and hard work of all U.S. throwers.
Every drug user that makes a team leaves one person who works their ass off every day, sacrificing and not takeing short cuts, at home. What kind of message are we sending to younger throwers by idolizing drug users?
You want to clean up the sport? Stop glamorizing drug use!

I'm doing great. Laura is really doing great as a coach. She is helping a lot with the technical aspect and especially the training programs. Throwing is going great. It has not felt this good since my junior year.

Quote from Scratch
I have won 3 of the 4. Matsers are for those who can't let go. I do not compete in them. My name is not important. The friends I have and drugs I have seen are what is important. The 80's were a time of open use in many circles and friends have spoken openly. Don't you just miss the 80's. Just remember Tucson/phoenix is home to many drug running "phamacias". They know little of doctor patient confidentiality. Not hard to track down names from shipping and trainer black books. Trainners are so dirty. Everyone seems to know everyone. Special thanks to Gordy.
I just need a few more to say everyones favorite catch phrase "name that thrower" and I shall begin. So lets hear it.published at Oct 15th 2007 10:16am on http://www.effortlessthrow.org/

Sorry but I have not been paying too much attention to this hot topic. Are we talking about naming retired drug cheats or current drug users?
To be honest I dont really want to know or care about who was using in the 80s. That era has a bad enough reputation as is. We all know a lot happened back then and knowing exactly who will not do any of the current throwers any good.
Although I suppose some retired clean athletes might be very interested
For me it does not really matter if someone knows that one of my competitors is using drugs. Until they get caught I still have to find a way to beat them!

I may have missed somthing that is central to what you are saying but I'm sure that the past should have no effect on the future unless we continue to conjure up old speculations about certain generations. Let's lay all out there, certain docs perscribed to certain athletes and then turned around and called them cheaters. Who is to balme for this? Well the athlete that made the choice but doesn't the system bare any responsibility? Aren't they the ones the aided in the lies? The point is is it will all be the same lie until the system chages iin order to make it possible for the athlete to make better choinces as they will be able to be professional weight persons and have the ability to make a living instead of a few the battle in every way for a few scraps while the brass get bonuses for endorsement deals.

Hi: C.B. Nebraska. Norm three posts in one month-Imust be getting upset. Glad we are professional and can agree to disagree.John Smith - I think I will drive to your place someday so you can help implementing some ideas into my brain. Then we could discuss Terri and Tressa-two of Nebraska's better throwers. Names - who gives a hoot. If scratch wants to give the info he will, if not who cares. Why do we get back to some throwing questions and answers on technical throwing. Since two heart attachs I am a little cynical when I see young paople get stressed over little snid remarks, I am not overtly religious because I think the big guy has a reason for me to be here so therefore #1.) Spell 'SIN' without the "I" #2 He without sin cast the first stone. We should move on men. Thanks for reading if you did, If you didn't we don't have a problem. Sory I can't make National Throws, have sons coming in a week early to hunt and I had really planned on this year because of the date change. Best to all. Thro loud and far. Quote from LetItRip
As a HS coach, i always have and always will let my kids know the realities of taking drugs & the ultimate price of taking drugs, usually as a response from them.
In my book, theres only one way to go and the only way i know... the natural way, as most do. Like a criminal that will get caught at some point in the future, a drug user (even if not caught) will always have the conscious of a cheat, the conscious of knowing that they didnt accomplish what they have by themselves. And every person that has done it knows this. They can show all they want on the outside, but deep down inside, you cannot cheat your sub conscious mind, and it will live with them forever.
My question is.. as a coach, and a fan of this sport for a long time... These types of discussions have been going on for some time, and i feel like i have to take a stand in my own mind on the throwers of the generations..
I do agree with the people that have spoken about the positive tested guys as still being great people of our sport, etc. But i also agree with the people that have spoken about the cheaters are exactly that and shouldnt be patronized as leaders or champions of our sport any longer.
so which is it ? If i go one way, i become a hippocrit of sorts in my own philosophy looking past drug use of these throwers, and if i go another, i have to turn my back per se on some of the greatest we have known in our sport. (This MUST include even the ones that I believe in my heart have done the same, even though not caught.
Do i give all older throwers a pass for plenty of reasons, and just start with current throwers ? It seems to be the consensus that the majority of the older guys wee doing stuff, but it was accepted and not really out of the ordinary ?
this is more of a rhetorical question, as i will get the same split responses that we get normally here, which is fine, but this is where my own thinking is as i get ready for the next season..
Im looking to put this personally behind me with one decision or another, and get engaged into the real work ahead, which is helping my kids THROW FAR... but i was curious to get some responses one last time, and see if any feel the same way..
thanks
Mike

Sorry, no internet at home. Had to catch up this morning.
Guess we are on oppositte sides of the coin on this one. I feel that as a coach of young adults, it is my job to coach ALL athletes. Based on your philosophy, should I only teach the kids in my (academic) class that are getting A's?
I respect what you think, but wonder what level you are coaching. I know that my school, AD, and community believe that high school is about experience and learning.
To answer your statement about coaching talented athletes, yes, I do that also. I tend to go with HS coach as teacher first, however.
Have a good week.

I was checking the Ring here this morning while my students are sweating over the ITBS standardized tests, when the district's filter blocked the site. Gasp! Now it's allowing it to go through. Whew! I'm glad Chuck Bolton's posts weren't deleted!!

With MAC trying to give out my address its a possibility LOL. Why should I talk if none want to listen? I leave it to the peolpe to decide. I shouldn't have to say my name. A clever person could have already figured it out. Several people that post regularly know who I am. It has not been kept a secret when talking in person. On the ring I shall stay anonymous.
