Quote from Coach MacDisplay MoreIntresting that ALekna has a sub par day ( less than 100% physically) and it starts a wind storm ...LOL
As long as its a wind-allowable event why not throw in it ?
I wouldn't equate Alekna losing an event on the level of man bites dog. Kanter is the young lion and lets not take away from his gutty (3) rd throw qualifier and subsequent winning throw (in a stadium).
If memory serves me correct. I beleive a 24-foot (windy) condition p.r. is right up there with the higgest increase that I'm aware of ? I've seen these types of throws at Antelope Valley (where Alekna threw ) in 40-mph gusts that particular day.
UCSD when the wind and surf are right as well as Salinas and Modesto are other notorius west-coast venues. Bens Plunknetts fabled 252' warm up at Salinas and Godina hitting a 70-m plus warm up where the edge of his discus was up was an awesome throw too see as well.
IF anyone was in the stadium in Moscow in 1980 please either confirm or deny the opening of the MASSIVE gates when the Russian discus throwers were throwing or NOT...grin
This story is right up there with the Patriots having a snow plow to clean the field right before the winning filed goal too beat the RAIDERS "if" its TRUE ????
