Zigismunds Sirmais from Latvia has finally ticked off the qualification standard for the Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil. Based on his recent competitions it was not expected that Sirmais would throw the norm.

He opened with 75m, improved during his second round with a new season best of 78.94m and another 76m throw in round three. During his 4th round, Sirmais came very close to the standard throwing 82.91m. With his final attempt of 83.95m, he ticked off the standard and can finally plan for Rio.
Janis Griva placed 2nd with a new personal best of 79.35m and Rolands Strobinders threw a season best of 78.69m to take the third place on the podium. Madara Palameika won the women’s event with 59,78m.
