The men’s shot put event of the Stockholm’s Diamond League meeting was held one day prior the main program. Tom Walsh won the shot put event with 21,13m in the absence of Joe Kovacs.
In Ralambshovsparken, the shot put event took place. It is one of the oldest parks in the Swedish capital. Walsh placed second in both previous diamond league competitions he was part of (Shanghai and Eugene). This time, he tossed the 7kg ball to 21.13m to take the victory. Not one other contender was able to throw the 7kg ball beyond the 21m mark. Walsh’s series was consistent: 20.93m, 21.13m, 21.05m, x, 21.08m, 21.08m. The Polish Michal Haratyk placed 2nd with his last round effort of 20.54m. It was quite different from the previous DL competitions because all eight throwers were allowed to have six throws. In the previous events, only the top four were allowed to throw three additional times. Tim Nedow placed 3rd with 20.44m. In the absence of Joe Kovacs, who is currently leading the Diamond League race with 24 points, Walsh came closer to the top having 22 points after this victory.
