The German javelin thrower Mathias Mester became European vice champion at the 2016 IPC Athletic European Championships. He had the furthest throw but due to a point system in the F40/F41 category Mathias placed 2nd.
Today’s javelin competition was not as planned for the German thrower. Mathias Mester, who belongs to the F41 disability class, threw the javelin the furthest. But due to the category F40/F41, he did not finish first. Yan Shkulka, who belongs to the F40 disability class, threw a new European record of 31.31m to take the victory. His achievement brought him 897 points whereas the 37.84 of Mester only provided 839 points.
Unfortunately, the competition did not go as planned. I had some difficulties at the beginning of the competition and could not follow my coach’s technical instructions. I have to tick it off… and now continue to focus on the Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
