Darrell “The Governor” Hill (born 17 August) is a shot putter from the United States. In 2015 Hill was NCAA (U23) runner-up this past year with a 20,78m (68′ 2¼”) and finished 6th at the USA Championships at 20.80m (68′ 3″).
Hill began throwing at the end of 2009 season when his school’s (Penn Wood High School) track & field coach asked Hill to do him a favor and compete at a meet because they needed points. He decided to stick around because I thought the team was cool. His head coach was an exceptional sprints coach, but they had no throws coach on staff. As time went on Hill taught himself to throw by watching others and watching YouTube videos. He also didn’t have a throwing circle or any indoor shot puts until 2011 when he found one at the Armory.
Hill’s first highly experienced throws coach was Will Blackburn at the University of Houston in 2012. He then transferred to Penn State and has trained with Patrick Ebel since.
