O’Dayne Richards (14 December 1988 in St. Andrew) is a shot put and discus thrower. He is currently studying at University of Technology, Jamaica. He brought home gold from the 2014 Commonwealth Games with a personal best of 21,61m (70′ 10¾”). In 2015, Richards won the Pan American Games with a new Pan American record of 21.69m (71′ 2″).

How has your training been going recently?
My throwing has started to show signs that I am in good condition to throw well and I am happy for that.
What is the focus of your training schedule?
Well the focus of the training right now is to get more powerful and to sharpen up for the World Championships.
Is there anything new you are implementing into your training?
There isn’t anything new that I’m implementing in my training program, it’s still much of the same–weight training, plyos and throwing.
What technical issues are you working on?
The technical issue that I am working on right now is to exit the power position well and to finish with the optimum height of release.
Where are you currently training?
I am currently training in Jamaica.
Will you be attending any training camps at another site? If so, where and when?
I am currently unsure of where I will be training; but the training camp will be somewhere between the 8th and the 20th.
Who is your current coach?
My coach is Lival Swaby, and we are members of the MVP Track Club. He’s with me in Jamacia.
Are you currently working a job?
I am not working a 9 to 5 but maybe soon I will be doing so.
What competitions do you have planned?
The only competition I have planned is the World Championships. I guess depending on how well I do there meet directors will want me at their meets.
When will you travel to Asia?
I will travel to Beijing the 20th.
Will any friends or family be travelling to Beijing?
I will be traveling to beijing with my teammates; no family and no friends outside of my teammates.
