How has your training been going recently?
Training over the summer has been tough, training alone and away from my coach for so long has been tough. Keeping myself focused and on task requires more effort than usual. I just entered back into a heavy training block to prepare for Worlds and my feeling is getting better.
What is the focus of your training schedule?
My training is focused around my 7.26kg hammer, I also throw some 7.8kg and 10kg plate throwing. Lifting takes a step back in the summer and is used more to keep muscle tone. Every day now I throw in the morning and evening, and lift once.
Is there anything new you are implementing into your training?
For a while I took out my heavy hammers, but I have put them back in before Worlds. They always seem to help me get a better feel for the 7.26kg. I also have a few weeks of light-bench press just to keep my upper-body stable.
What technical issues are you working on?
In my throw I am currently working on pushing my right-arm out straight as I enter the first turn, and also taking the ball completely around my left side before driving back. These are more a timing issue that come and go during the season.
Where are you currently training?
When will you travel to Asia? When will you travel to Beijing?
The Great Britain team go out to Japan on the 10th for a camp, and then into China a few days before my competition.
Who is your current coach?
My current coach is John Baumann.
Are you training with your coach on site or long distance?
Long distance, via YouTube.
Are you currently working a job? If so, what and how many hours a week?
I am still a full-time student.
What competitions do you have planned?
Before the World Championships I will attend the 61st Janusz Kusocinski Memorial on August 9th in Poland.
Will any friends or family be travelling to Beijing?
My parents will be coming along to watch
