How has your training been going recently?
Training has been going well. After USA championships I got into a heavy weight room cycle, so while I was over in Europe for 2 weeks I was a little sluggish and my nervous system wasn’t firing on all cylinders. Now that I got a solid month of heavy training I am starting to feel better physically as I begin my taper going into world champs.
What is the focus of your training schedule?
My focus throwing wise is working on my rhythm, timing and technical positions and trying to keep things consistent. Not making any drastic changes this late into the outdoor season. Weight room wise I went into some volume and heavy power and Olympic lifts with lots of accessories. I just finished a month block so now I begin backing off the volume, and throwing in more speed, plyos, and sprint variations to keep the nervous system firing.
Is there anything new you are implementing into your training, what technical issues are you working on?
The entry is always something I have to work on in my throw. In my opinion it is one of the most important aspects of the throw, so if the entry is executed correctly it allows better positions through the middle and finish.
I added some new lifting variations and plyos this season, but as of now I am not doing anything drastically different.
Where are you currently training?
I’ll be training in Tempe Arizona until August 16 when I travel to Japan for four days before I compete at the Worlds, but that’s about it.
Who is your current coach?
David Dumble of Arizona State University.
Are you currently working a job? If so, what and how many hours a week?
Yes, I work as a part time demo rep for a supplement company called Cellucor. Right now I am not working much because I have been on the road a lot since may and now prepping for worlds, but earlier in the season I will work about 15 hours a week.
What competitions do you have planned?
World champs on August 23rd, then not sure yet after. I haven’t gotten confirmed yet but hoping to head back to Europe for a few more meets.
Will any friends or family be travelling to Beijing?
No family, but my coach David dumble will be.
