Gold for Germany in the women Javelin Throw, World Championships

Today saw the women’s Javelin Throw competition take place at the 2015 world championships today with a very close competition.
All women were out in force today to battle for the top 3 positions, but only one thrower would go away with the gold medal and crowned the 2015 world champion, Starting us of Barbora Špotáková (CZE) the current woman’s world record holder in the javelin, did not have a good competition, and sadly didn’t go away with the gold medal, with a throw of only 60.08 she was placed 9th in the competition.
Lingwei LI on home ground had a good competition, but her throw just wasn’t enough to get her into the medal positions, with distance of 64.10 she came 5th, only just ahead of Lingwei LI, was thrower Christina Obergfoll from Germany who managed a throw of 64.61, that put here 4th overall but she happily went away with a seasons best.
The top 3 slots in the competition went to Sunette Viljoen, who was the first of the throws to get a distance over 65m, and led the competition in the 3rd round, overall she took the bronze medal, Sunette Viljoen who had owned the previous best throw of the year, collected a second world bronze after her 2011 podium finish with 66.13m.
Sunette Viljoen said:
“This event is unpredictable and it is beautiful,” she said. “It was a very special performance from the Chinese girl. And Katharina, wow, nobody expected that.
“I love what I do, I love the javelin and it is such a privilege to stand on the podium.”
The Silver Medal went to Huihui LYU of China who was leading the competition until the last round with a throw of 66.13 and an new AR, but sadly only took the silver at the world championships.
And the winner and 2015 World championship title, and gold medal went to Kathrina Molitor from Germany who had an amazing final would throw of 67.69 that knocked Huihui LYU of china off the gold medal position and into silver.
Kathrina Molitor said:
“I cannot really believe this,” she said. “After my fifth throw, I thought, ‘Maybe I can still improve a little bit’. I dreamed about that and now I have this new PB and world lead. Perfect.”
Overall the Women’s Javelin final was a competition to watch all throwers were amazing and you really couldn’t pick who would win, it was anyone’s competition, but this was the 2015 world champion, who will the next world champion be?
Anyone notice how small Lyu is? I’m guessing (sorry, only Imperial measurements) 5’7″, maybe 140 lbs. But she has one of my favorite javelin techniques – she “vaults” up into the throw off of her left leg. Her coach is Uwe Hohn, right? He didn’t throw this way but he can see that it’s right for this athlete. I think there are about 4-5 general ways to throw the javelin far, and the good coach understands this and tries to match the technical model to the athlete’s capabilities. Of course, Julius Yego has a different method, since it’s clear he drives under and away from the flight line, but he gets it done. His flight was one of the best I’ve seen in recent years – low, maybe 34 degrees, and right through the point. Those Airgliders are something – looked like some of the Old Rules javelins! Nice, shallow landing angle. Flight matters.
