At the Diamond League meeting in Monaco (Monte Carlo) Friday night (17 July), David Storl meets the US putter and main rival Joe Kovacs in the shot put event for the last time before the World Championships in Beijing, China.
The men’s shot put event in Monaco will already be a good rehearsal for the upcoming world championships in Beijing, China. David Storl intends to increase his lead as much as possible. With a win, the chances of winning the Diamond League race for the first time will be good. Three times has the world champion already won competitions of the current season, in Doha (Qatar), Rome (Italy) and last week in Lausanne (Switzerland) with his first toss beyond the 22m mark (22.20m).
Joe Kovacs won already two times in the current season and has also ambition to beat Storl. He won on home soil in Eugene and in New York. David Storl is leading the diamond race with 14 points, closely followed by Kovacs who collected 10 points up to now. The two opponents could push each other again to toss over the 22m mark. The meeting will be a good rehearsal for the world championships in Beijingy, China (August 22-30th).
