At the Loiste Eliittikisat meeting in Loiste Joensuu, Finland some big throwing results were achieved by some the strong men and women. The best results was achieved in the men’s javelin event. Vitezslav Vesely won the competition with 85.24m, followed by Antti Ruuskanen 84.15m and Teemu Wirkkala.
The men’s javelin event was quite exciting. Until the end it was not clear who is going to take the victory. Right from the start Antti Ruuskanen from Finland was leading the competition with 81.23m and improved even further in the second round to 82.87m. Vitezslav Vesely opened with three fouls, being lucky that there were only 8 throwers so that he still would have three more throws to fight back.
In the 3rd round Vesely finally threw over the 82m mark which was close to Ruuskanen but not close enough. Until the 4th round Antti Ruuskanen was leading the competition, before Vesely unleashed 83.90m to take the lead. Ruuskanen fought back in his final round throwing 84.15m to take the lead again. But then Vesely improved to 85.24m to finally take the victory. In the end, Teemu Wirkkala placed 3rd with 79.73m.
In the men’s shot put event Tomasz Stanek won with exactly 20.00m, Arttu Kangas became 2nd with 18.99m and Tomas Söderlund 3rd (18.55m). Nataliya Semenova won the women’s discus event with 60.95m. Sanna Kämäräinen became 2nd with 57.76m and Katri Hirvonen 3rd 53.79m.
The Finish Sanni Utrianen won the women’s javelin event with 60.02m. She was followed by Heidi Nokelainen, who threw a new personal best of 59.86m and a new season best by Oona Sormunen 58.81m.
