There are some great shot putters out there in New Zealand. Usually, when talking about the best everything thinks about Valerie Adams. But one should know that there is also Tom Walsh. Today Tom broke the Oceania record by tossing the 7.26kg ball to 21.50m (70′ 6½”).
Tom Walsh is currently at a training camp in Mannheim. As part of his training camp Tom competed at the throwing competition in Mutterstadt, Germany. One can easily say he was in record mood. The world class shot putter tossed the 7.26kg ball during his first attempt to 21.50m. This massive throw is not just a new stadium record, but also a new New Zealand and even a new Oceania record. The American, Reese Hoffa was the one who hold the previous stadium record of 21.19m.
Tom Walsh opened the competition with his massive throw of 21.50m. That he is in good shape one could see by looking at the next attempts. During the 2nd round he moved that heavy implement to 20.90m, 20.34m in round three and 20.59m in the 4th round. The next two rounds Tom fouled.
Throwholics was told that Tom had during warm ups even bigger throws….. But yeah well, warm ups do no count. So we hope he can reproduce these then in Beijing, China. Tom Walsh was quite happy with the result and aims for a medal at the upcoming World Championships in Beijing, China. According to Tom Walsh’s coach Dale Stevenson, Tom is in a really good shape and is really happy about the training performances.
