The men’s javelin event does have a special role in Germany because Germany is allowed to nominate four throwers for the upcoming world championships. Today’s national championships was won by Thomas Röhler with 84.73m. The leading thrower in Germany, Johannes Vetter, placed 2nd with 83.12m and Lars Hamann 3rd with 81.03m.
That the German javelin throwers are quite strong is well known in the world. Due to the Diamond League race winner Thomas Röhler, Germany is allowed to nominate 4 throwers for the world championships. Thomas received a wild card by the IAAF and hence, Germany is allowed to nominate 3 more throwers who manage to throw the qualification standard.
At today’s national championships it was really important who is going to make the cut for the remaining three tickets. Thomas Röhler did win the national championships with 84.73m but is not considered for the fight of three remaining tickets. The leader in Germany, Johannes Vetter placed 2nd with 83.12m. His chances are quite good to make the team. next to him Lars Hamann and Andreas Hofmann both threw the qualification standard before. Since there is no one else, it is pretty easy for Germany’s officials to nominate who is going to Beijing. Probably, all four of them are going to compete. Lars Hamann placed 3rd with 81.03m and Andreas Hofmann with 79.21m 4th.
