Sorry for this post having very little detail, but I thought that it would be good to share to the community.
SA’s young guns jetted off to the world youth championships in Cali, Colombia, on Sunday with a secret weapon in their midst — Burger Lambrechts.
The 16-year-old is the son of the former national athlete of the same name who competed at two Olympics and, like his dad, he does the shot put. Officially Lambrechts is ranked fourth in the world, but in training he has thrown a huge personal best of 21.70m.
“It would be a world lead but nobody knows about it,” he said with a laugh.
Lambrechts has received valuable advice from his father, who competed at the world junior (under-20) championships in 1992.
“Probably the most important is that I must see it as just a competition,” added the athlete, who is ranked
second in the world in the discus — although his throw apparently came too late for qualification.
