The Polish shot putter Konrad Bukowiecki set some new standards in the U20 shot put event. He smashed his own previous personal best, the national junior record and the championships record. He tossed a monster of 22.62m (75′ 2 1/2″).
At the U20 European Championships in Eskiltuna, Sweden the Polish shot putter smashed his previous best to a new national junior record. He already beat the indoor world record and is now aiming for David Storl’s European record and Jacko Gill’s world record of 23m. During the interview with European Athletics he stated that he has one more year to go for those goals and that he is quite confident to achieve it. Now he will start concentrating on the senior shot for the upcoming world championships in Beijing, China.
“I just felt it,” said Bukowiecki as he laughed about his golden jig. “I just felt it was a good throw. I am happy, yet I thought I could go over 23m today but in the end, not in these weather conditions.”
Konrad had an impressive series by starting with 20.74m, 20.82m, 22.62m, 21.90m, 21.82m and 22.47m. There was no chance at all for anyone of the other tossers to get even close to him.
Andrei Toader placed 2nd with 20.78m and Sebastiano Bianchetti 3rd with a new national junior recordof 20.71m.
