The Pan American Games are held every 4 years, same as the Olympic Games. This year’s edition is held in Toronto, Canada. Kibwé Johnson remains Pan American Champion in the men’s hammer throw with 75.46m. Rosa Rodriguez takes the gold medal in the women’s hammer throw final and Cleopatra Borel the gold medal in the women’s shot put final.
The men’s hammer throwing event was very entertaining. Kibwé Johnson, who is the Pan American record holder with 79.63m won the competition with his 5th round effort of 75.46m. Kibwè opened the competition with 72.17m, followed by two throws and another 72m throw before he released the winning throw of 75.46m.
Until the 5th round some one else was leading the competition. Roberto Janet from Cuba threw 74.48m in round two to stay ahead of the Pan American record holder. Roberto was quite consistent in his throws with another 73.57m and 73.99m in his last attempt. But this was not enough to beat the new Pan American Champion Kibwé Johnson. Conor Mccullough, also from the United States, placed 3rd with 73.74m from the second round.
Whew! Tell you what fam, that was hard work last night! But I got it done. The virtue of competition does not lie in what you can do when it’s easy, but in what you can do when it’s hard. Buckle down. Get it done. Very proud of this performance. Many, many thanks to all of you for your tremendous support. Love you all! ?

The Venezuelan Rosa Rodriguez won the women’s hammer event with her 5th attempt of 71.61m, followed by the American Amber Campbell 71.22m and the Canadian Sultana Frizell 69.51m. It was a close competition and also quite exciting to watch. Sultana Frizell lead the competition after the first round with 68.90m before Rosa Rodriguez unleashed a 71m throw in round two. Until the 5th around the positions on the podium did not change anymore. Then the American Amber Campbell released 71.22m to better Rodriguez’s throw. But Rosa know how to answer, also in the 5th round she took back the lead with 71.61m.
Pan American Games – Women’s Hammer Throw:
Cleopatra Borel from Trinidad and Tobago won the shot put event with 18.67m. Only 2 centimeters apart was Jilian Camarena-Williams. She threw 18.65m to became 2nd. Natalia Duco’s new season best of 18.01m secured her the bronze medal. Cleopatra Borel lead the competition from the start. She opened with 18.39m and increased her lead in round two with a 18.67m toss. Jilian Camarena-Williams tried her best to better Borel’s toss which did not happen. Her last attempt was just 2 centimeters short leaving her probably quite frustrated with this rather small gap.
