Last week we wrote about Julia Ritter’s takes shot put gold with 18.53m (60′ 9½”) at WYC in Colombia. Today, she arrived back home in Germany with a great welcome party. “This is totally awesome!”, said Julia Ritter after her return from the U18 World Championships in Cali, Colombia. She was euphorically welcomed by family and friends. Back on home soil at her track and field stadium the new U18 World Champion in the shot put walked through a lane of fans who cheered the 17-year-old. “I did not expect anything like that to happen”, said Ritter with tears in her eyes in an interview with the WDR television. A camera crew filmed her return and asked afterwards during training about her daily life and the hassle between school and being a professional athlete.
