The first day of the U23 European Championships are over but we have not talked about the massive European leading throw in the women javelin event by Christin Hussong. She threw during the qualification 62.59m and was in the end the only one with an automatic qualifier.
Christin Hussong is something special, considering the fact that she won the qualification not just with a huge European leading throw, but also having a head start of almost 8m to the second place. That basically means that the gold medal is quite secure with Christina, if nothing unusual happens.
Therefore, the focus will be more on the silver and bronze medal positions. These medals are probably quite interesting to follow because all of the young throwers are quite close together. Besides Christina Hussong no one made the automatic qualification performance of 55m and therefore the next best 11 throwers were selected for the final.
Kateryna Derun placed second with her 2nd attempt of 54.92m, followed by the Spanish javelin thrower Lidia Parada 54.87m and her compatriot Arantxa Moreno 54.77m. In order to qualify 49.37m were needed in the end. The final will take place on Saturday the 11th.
