Sandra Perkovic, the queen in women discus throwing, showed everyone who deserves the diamond jackpot of the IAAF Diamond League. With another win at the Monaco DL meeting she accumulated 22 points and secured the diamond race. Today she threw 66.80m to take the victory.
Actually, there was no doubt that Sandra Perkovic would not get the jackpot by winning the Diamond League race. She had before today’s meeting already so many points collected that it would have been really difficult to beat her.
Sandra opened the competition with 62.37m and was even overtaken by Dani Samuels’ 62.58m and Gia Lewis-Smallwood’s 62.39m after the first round has finished. Sandra then fouled the next three rounds before she took the lead with a good throw of 66.80m. During the last round Dani Samuels came close with her best effort of 65.21m. Gia Lewis-Smallwood took with her new season best of 63.97m the 3rd place. Melina Robert-Michon placed 4th with 62.39m. Both Cuban throwers Perez and Caballero did not compete. In order to collect the 40,000$ jackpot Perkovic has to compete at the Diamond League final.
