The men’s shot put event of the German championships are over. The shot put star and double world champion David Storl won the competition with 21.47m. Tobias Dahm placed 2nd with a new season best of 19.83m and Bod Göder 3rd with 19.02m
As already announced during the German Championships preview, there was no one who might get close to David Storl. Hence, Storl was fighting against himself to break once again the 22m barrier.
For today, the 22m mark was too far away. David Storl opened the competition with 21.01m, and produced a very consistent series of high quality throws. After his opening throw he went on tossing the 7.26kg ball to 21.15m, 21.28m, 21.00m before going to his winning throw of 21.47m. During his 6th attempt he pushed again the 7.26kg ball close to the 21m mark by tossing it to 20.98m. Without a doubt he was taking the gold medal at the championships.
Tobias Dahm produced a new season best to place second and grabbing the silver medal. He opened the competition with 19.37m, fouled his 2nd attempt before throwing a new season best of 19.83m. Dahm then fouled two more throws before tossing the 7.26kg ball to 19.62m. Then one would have expected that Christian Jagusch would become either 2nd or 3rd based on the recent results but he ended up 4th. Bodo Göder surpassd Jagusch with his 5th and best attempt of 19.02m. Jagusch throwing only 18.97m became 4th. Dennis Lewke threw 18.72m for the 5th place.
